Prison ball

Ever since Pastor Dave talked about GrX and its place in the community, I have been thinking about what it means to be in a community. I have also been praying to God about what I can do to serve the GrX community. About a month ago I signed up to play "Prison Ball." However I wasn't very convicted having learned later on that we were to play at San Quentin maximum security prison.

This week God answered my prayer. We had a visitor to GrX today who spoke on passion and putting that passion back into serving the Lord and our community. Ed runs the San Quentin Prison Basketball Outreach program and he talked about the lives that have been changed since the program's inception. He also spoke about Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew, how Jesus never turned away from the marginalized lives in our community. This really encouraged me and reaffirmed that God wants to change lives.

We are all forgiven by Christ's sacrifice. I know God wants to use me to affect my community and so with that I'm faithful that my participation in Prison Ball will glorify God, since basketball is something I'm pretty passionate about.

Is there something you're passionate and creative about that you wanted to do but felt uncertain about? Pray to God for direction. As long as we are passionate, truthful, and purposeful, God will use us to serve Him.
