As a designer the top priority in any design is focusing on your target audience. There are many examples of great user-centered websites, but where are these sites for a church? Church websites in general are community based not business based. This means information are presented differently: simple (quiet & gentle design NOT busy), appropriate logos and graphics, where news & events, conferences, blogs, forums, etc., are easily accessible. In addition to these examples the four things designers think about are:
  • User Interface (information flow, user interaction)
  • Layout (grid system, columns, navigation structures, accessibility)
  • Graphic (visual, color, brandings)
  • Typography (types/fonts, style rules)

Got Mockups?

Awhile back I met up with Bobby to talk about some mockups for GrX website. I remembered the conversation goes something like this:
Bobby: "We need to update our site badly."
Me: "Yeah."
Bobby: "Any ideas?"
Me: "Umm...not really..."

So for the next hour we drew some stuff on the whiteboard in his office and came up with some sites to look at. Among the sites mentioned were: Willow Creek, 7:22, and Newsong.

I went home, thought about it somemore, and came up with these designs. I had a lot of fun working on these and they are in no way complete. At the moment they are just concepts, not "green-lit" yet. As for implementation that is another beast altogether, but I do have some ideas. Please feel free to let me know what you think. All feedbacks are welcomed and greatly appreciated.

I been visiting sites of some churches around here... and man i'm getting sleepy just trying to find out how to get there, and what time service is. let alone... am i going to love this church as much?!

the concepts look great. i like the professional layout, and easy to understand (at least from looking) navigation.

red is a bit overwhelming though.

i like the last one... mostly cause when ur browsing... u don't want the first thing u see is a group of Asian people... especially since we are trying to be more diverse... maybe let the reader learn more abt GRX and fall for what we stand for... not saying don't have pics... just maybe not on the frong page?
