Scouting Season Open
So GrX Falls Hoop season is quickly approaching. As a newly minted captain I've got to start "scouting" for players during these open gym nights. Problem is I don't know 80% of the guys playing and the guys I do know are heavily being headhunted, sort of.
Take Andy Fitz for example. He's a monster. After last season he's like honey and we [captains] are a bunch of bees...buzzing about him. I'm sure he'll go pretty high up on the draft list, if not the #1 pick for most captains. He's 6'5" with grand handling skills. To top it off he's a pastor so naturally during fellowship he's a great asset to have as he'll close us in prayers.
Tall guys tend to go pretty quickly in our league and the next tall guy is Chris Lee followed by Eugene. Both are not available since they are captains.
So many factors go into picking a winning team. On a winning team I tend to look for the selfless player having played with prima donnas before I don't want to deal with that. Nope. Defense is another important factor. My team has to play all-out-hustle-take-no-prisoner "D". That means we have to be in good shape, fit and fast. Offensively I need a good ballhandler with lots of heart and selfless...selfless. Unfortunately great ballhandlers directing the team tend to be score-oriented.
My wishlist for a GrX team.
1. Tall center (Andy Fitz ie.)
2. two tall forwards that are quick and good outside shooters
3. a guard that is quick and with great eyes...selfless preferred
We'll see as there are two more open gyms left and two chance to scout for players and get their names so I know who the heck they are. Exciting times!
You could take me that plays no certain position... sucks at ball handling... and is only 5'5"...
WOW! you guys are like HARD CORE basketball people. What about the fellowship for the mediocre bball players at GRX where are they going to fit in when the rest of you are so competitive? :)

nice! i can't wait to watch pastor andy play... with or against him... i've been hearing so much about him. i want to try to block his shot... haha!
Dood. there should totally be a vball league. i'd be so there... maybe i should try to start one... (umm.... like i have time.)
There are way more big men than just Andy, Chris, and I. Don't worry, you'll get a scouting report with, height, weight, age and playing style.
Now I'm all stressed out about drafting my team, you seem to have analyized everything. Maybe I'll just pick a team full of my friends.
