Dance, Moves, Runs, and Back to Work
It's time for an update on the past Labor Day weekend.
Dance (It Beats Watching TV)
This past Sat. night I went clubbing at Element Lounge with some friends. Prior to this spontaneous decision, I was over at a friend's housewarming BBQ lollapalooza. I guess in between watching SF 2004 Hip Hop DanceFest Competition and Hitch on DVD, I was inspired to try out some of those new moves. No I didn't in fact try the "do the Q-tip! Q-tip! Now throw it away! Now what am I doing? I'm makin a pizza" move. I've got my own "running" dance moves thank you. Indeed it was great times seeing so many GrXers outside of church—GrXers could jiggy with it!
Movers Gone Crazy
One of my friends recently bought a house. While she's not exactly ready to move into her new home, she needed help to move into a subletted house. So on Sun. afternoon, with the help of 10 other friends, we were able to help her move—quite efficiently, too. We had to "raise the bar" and come up with some quick moving solutions as the UHaul rental didn't have a loading ramp—there were lots of "watch your back" and "on the count of three lift the fridge". Our friend's mom made us tons of Taiwanese food. ALL the dishes were great.
Long *Group* Run (or Some People Call This Fun)
Many of you may know that I'm in the midst of training for my first marathon. And while I still have plenty of running to do, I'm at a stage where I'm starting to enjoy the long runs. The long run this time around despite what I perceived as a slower run wasn't due to us pushing and pulling one another. Additionally pain seemed less obvious with more frequent walking breaks and slowing down in order to carry a conversation. Lastly, nothing beats a group post-run-meal shared among friends. (Pho Nam and pearl milk tea at Verde much?)
+ Props to: NateDawg for running 12.6 miles...in basketball hi-tops! Earlier, after learning we're to run 15 miles commented, "OH *only* fifteen miles?"
+ Props to: WB, who hasn't been running 4+ miles since the Chicago marathon of last year (except the MTN. Warfare 10K this May), but was able to lead the run while calling out "Curahee!"
Cold Dish Run
I made a last minute decision to run the Dish after my company's table tennis tournament Mon (today). I started around 7pm and half way around the loop, I felt a slightly cold breeze. As I looked up on one of the last sustaining hills, I noticed it was already reaching the "golden hour"—the small window before the sun sets completely, where the hues are between purple and gold. Yeesh! Where did the sun go!?!
And for the first time since I remembered doing the Dish there weren't a lot of runners around to greet. When I finished the loop at 7:30pm I saw the security guard outside of the entrance...with the gate closed. Fall has officially arrived at the Dish! (NOTE to self: Sept hours: 6:30 AM-7:30 PM)
Back to Work
Not much to report here except...well what else can one moan & groan about after a long fun-filled three day weekends if not about work. OH did I mention that I am in a ping pong tournament. (Update: I lost both the indiv. and doubles bracket.)
This is you! "one, two, one, two!" haha. don't worry, you don't look like you're marching...=P Oh, i haven't laughed so hard in a long time!
fun times fun times...
haa haa... did u see me and nathan attempting to do the "Q tip" move?!! how stupid we be!! :P
Yes. I saw a lot more than the Q-tip...but that is a secret I won't reveal...so as to protect my readers. haha.
Great stuff though, between JP's "pimping my ride" move, Nathan's "makin the pizza", your "Q-tip throw it away" and Hank's "non-move" I have got TONS of fun memories. Thanks guys.
(NOTE: I wasn't marching...that's how I happen to dance. Boo. ;P )
So, Mike, can I officially call you 'Uncle' now? heh, heh
