2005 Tax Refund And First Three Months: Where I Am Today?
Finally after a little over a month I got my 2005 Federal tax refund in the mail yesterday. In our modern electronic filing day-and-age, to get a refund back after more than 30 days is...well...the whole process just seems so antiquated. I could have use TurboTax to e-file but Sandy will do her's tonight and will probably file it that way. We share the software and only one e-filer at a time.
Oddly enough today I had to go to my nearest BofA to make a deposit. I don't remember the last time I actually had to do that. Incredible!
First Three Months: Where I Am Today?
Work: Our CEO is looking for someone to rebrand our corporate strategies or brand. I think if you were to look at our company website you would agree that our products lack clarity. It was a humbling experience to hear this but rebranding is a major part of any company and this undertaking is outside of my expertise. I guess the name of the game in business is branding, really just building a strong brand. (sic Google, Apple.) At lunch today a bunch of us mulled over the prospect of us going IPO. I think these conversations are exciting if ony for the first few minutes. If anything "we" being acquired is more realistic.
Spirituality: When I joined Knot2Us I wanted to learn more about God. It is probably one of the best decisions I have done in my life, being a part of these good down to earth folks. Like everything in life things come and go in cycle and at this point in my life I am heading in some "unknown" territory of a serious relationship. Last week I decided to step down from being a core and focus on these "unknown" things. I am looking forward to this next chapter in my life. Hey change is good. And I have to grow up some time or other.
Something else I like to add here is that I have no doubt that Knot2Us will do well as a community of Gods' servants. How do I know? K2U has a good vision and mission statement, and K2Uers are a bunch of non-judgmental, humble, and volunteer oriented folks. It is fairly obvious when you visit.
Finance: Typically I relegate this to my brother Kevin, who is a CFA, but it seems lately that I have been spending a lot of time in this category. I don't know why it has taken me that long but these are the types of things that I am trying to learn. I have to tell you though that the steep learning curve of retirement investments, house purchases, stock investments, and the hunkering down of that daunting task of researching for the 5Cs, has been very exciting. I guess I am going from beta to public and growing up.
Health: As another sign of aging it is now harder for me to play a couple of back to back games of basketball. And running nowadays seems like a dream of the past. So now on Sundays I am usually playing with my team Geckos in the GRX 2006 Spring league. Sometimes I play at SCU for a few hours on the weeknights. So that in a way is my normal exercise. Afterward I just go home and ice myself up. Hey MJ played until he was in his forties and I have many many *ahem* many years on him.
