Breakfast, Giants, Geckos Win

I'll start by saying I don't really care much for Barry Bonds. I think his career is dwindling, being overly distracted with all the controversies surrounding him. I'm not even a big Giants fan either. But there is something about being caught up in the wave (bandwagon effect) of a comeback and the excitement of a home crowd that makes last Saturday's game a fun one to watch.

Saturday morning we drove up to Belmont to visit my sister—an aspiring cook—for breakfast. We were the first to arrive. The rest of her guests showed up later and so breakfast was ready. There were the usual french omelettes, bacons, sausages, waffels, fresh strawberry jams, butter-cinamon spread, freshly squeezed OJ, and her much prized Illy café. My favorite dish was the eggs benedict served with hollendaise sauce. Yummy. Phenomenal cooking sis! You have come quite a long ways since going to culinary school.

BEAT LA!!!

Back to the Giants. And Bonds' controversy, which is to say he admitted to taking steroid, although he didn't know they were steroid. How convenient? In any case it didn't matter that he is chasing Ruth's record or that I didn't know who is who on the Giants except for Bonds and perhaps Jason Schmidt. Anyways this post is NOT about the inherent problems of professional sports AND specifically the hitters getting bigger and bigger so that they can hit better so that they can make more money.

All of that didn't matter at the ballpark. Somehow, the cynical business of baseball was taken over by albeit a temporary high of watching the Giants mounting what turned out to be one of the sweetest Giants comeback I have ever seen.

Down 5-2 going into the 9th inning the Giants were fortunate with a few mistakes (errors?) from the Dodgers. Play-by-play asides, what happened was the Giants scored 4 runs in the bottom half of the 9th inning and won with a score of 6-5. Unbelievable!

On a sidenote: Sandy had to leave to visit her mom for mother's day after the 7 inning stretch. She called me later and tells me that she was listening to the game on her way to her mom's. "Oh, I can't believe I missed all the excitements!" At least she got to enjoy the game, although on a radio.

Someone out there, please explain to me the mentality that after Barry Bonds was gone, people started leaving. Are there no more loyalties in baseball? What happened to staying to cheer for YOUR home team? Perhaps there's no concept of a home team anymore...

Rants aside here is my humble Flickr set of Saturday's Giants 6-5 Win Over Dodgers. Please enjoy.

Lastly Geckos won! Darryl scored 33 points. Beast!
