Activities
- Joint preparations allow GRX and Kahawa Sukari team to know each other and strategize on the VBS
- VBS itself is actual teaching and interaction with both teachers and children
- Review workshops allow joint evaluation by both teams and skill development where experiences are shared
- Closing celebrations allow more time with kids where certificates will be given
- Children Sunday (12) will highlight the activities of the coming week. GRX will make a presentation in both services to introduce the team and help them connect with the congregation. GRX will also participate in the classes for children to see how we teach the kids. On 19 we shall have one service, with GRX preaching, which will feature children activities led by the teachers. Preparations will have been going on through-out the week.
- We usually have a prayer meeting on Tuesday evening. GRX can share for about 15 to 20 mins. before we pray.
- Visit to the slums will allow GRX to see the other side of Nairobi and perhaps participate in an activity there
- Visit to an orphanage will give opportunity to GRX to serve in a different setting
- Safari will give a countryside view of Kenya plus a little relaxation for GRX as they watch game
- Shopping will give an opportunity for GRX to visit the city and purchase whatever one would want
Bible lessons and crafts
- We made salvation bracelets that will be used for the God is real point. The memory verse for that is: The LORD is the only God. (Jeremiah 10:10) and the lesson is Rahab protects the Israelites spies from Josha 2.
- We made bookmarks to drive across the point that God is with us. The verse is: For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go. (Joshua 1:9) and the lesson is the Israelites cross the Jordan River from Joshua 3-4
- We have Burger King crowns (haha) for the point God is strong. The lesson is the walls of Jericho crashing down from Joshua 6 and the memory verse is: The LORD is my strength (Psalm 118:14)
- We have chalkboards to show that God is awesome. The memory verse is: For the Lord Most High is awesome (Psalm 47:2) and the lesson is Jesus died and rose again from Mark 15-16.
- We will use stars to show that God is in charge. The memory verse will be If you love me, you will obey my commandments (John 14:15) and the lesson is from 2 Kings 5 where God heals Naaman.
I realize that there is a lot going on here, but I think one key thing to stress is that the team be flexible. So the initial prayers and taking that step of faith is now turning into something concrete and real. And as we have one more week, I am excited and look forward to what the team will accomplish when we are in Kenya.
Yeah...that's it! Thank you again for all your support. I know we are partners in this and I can't wait to tell you the interesting things we have in stores for us in Kenya.
