Our SG had an outing at a comedy club in Sunnyvale last night. When we got there it was fairly empty. And being the only Asians (minus Heather) we decided "lets get a table next to the stage, in the front row." Sure enough someone from another smallgroup mentioned, "are we going to be pick on?" What a naive question...of course!

So for the rest of the night there were a total of 4 stand-up comic acts. The first person was this Jewish girl from S.F. and she was pretty un-funny. Okay...she was BAD! She talked about dating, life in S.F., and then she got around to us calling us the "Asian crowd except for one white girl."

Datne: "Hey is this an engineers night out?"
Grace (from MSG): "No. We are a Bible study group."

The night became very long after that. We became known as the Bible group for the rest of the night. And ALL the other comedians picked up on that and we became part of the routine. Haha. Here are some samples.

Datne: "I am a Jew. We read the torah. Oh you guys would call it the Old Testament."
Cash (the featured comic): "How would you like it if you name your kid Jesus. There goes Jesus swimming again. What a puss. He should be walking on water."
Cash: "What are you guys studying?"
Samson (from MSG): "We are doing a series."
Cash: "Cheers? Seinfeld? Roots? What kind of series?"
Samson: "Its part of a church discussion."
Cash: "Church discussion. Like where does the pew go?"

On and on the jokes came — Jesus jokes, jokes about a "one day FREE punch card" that people are entitled for a year, miracle jokes, etc...

Finally (after much enduredness ) the comedians were done and we got out of there. But on the way out Datne and Cash thanked us for coming. They were very nice to us—they do what they do because that is their job. What can I say I am proud to be a Bible Study Group.
